Be A Race Official
Champ Car 2006
The ONLY way to get a pass inside the fence at the Champ Car races this May is to be an SCCA Worker (or a Champ Car Official). So if you want the best seat in the house in return for some time and expertise, here is the way.
SCCA Worker School will be held again this year in conjunction with the Lone Star Region PCA Drivers Education event this October 29 - 30. Participation in the school includes the obligation to work the November Enduro Race at TWS to secure your license. This next year you can earn "worker points" that can be used to pay for your SCCA membership. You get one point for every day worked and additional points for some special events.
Format is work half the day and drive half the day. Driving sessions are open to EVERY worker, not just the recruits.
Sign up for the event is through the LSR-PCA registration link REGISTRATION We need all current workers and race licensed drivers that want to be instructors to sign up through the registration process now. Drivers (instructors) please contact James Rogerson for additional information.
This site will require you to establish a login, provide personal information, put a car in your garage, and then finally register for the event. When you register it give you a choice of different pricing options, CHOOSE SCCA WORKER SCHOOL for $0.00. Then choose [continue] not [paypal]. There are no garages left. You can hang out at my trailer.
If you have trouble contact me. (713) 408-2624 or jrogerson@houston.rr.com
Interested in helping put on club races? Races can't happen without a dedicated and talented field of Race Officials and we are always looking for more. "Race Official" sounds important...and it is, but it's very easy to become one. Race Officials are people who volunteer to staff positions at the track during race weekends. These people wave flags at the corners, help grid cars before the race, work the timing and scoring system, help register drivers and other Race Officials, throw the green and checkered flags, ensure the safety of the event, and more. All one needs to do is show up at the track and say, "I want to help."
See the Calendar page for the next Club Racing event
All specialties need help on any given race weekend. Click here for the Regional Administrators page. Each discipline (Flagging and Communications, Timing and Scoring, Grid, Registration, Scrutineering (tech inspection), and Starters) has a local administrator to help coordinate volunteer officials. They are experts in their fields (and several others, usually) and will be happy to answer your questions and help you on the road to being a race official. It's fun, exciting, and rewarding work!
