Solo Rules/Classes

The SCCA annually publishes the Solo Rules to classify a full range of imported and domestic sports cars, sedans, and purpose-built race cars, as well as to layout the basic rules behind Solo competition. The Solo Car Classifications are provided so that you may determine what types of cars are typically competing in Solo, although there is a class for just about any vehicle. The organizers of local events are also allowed enough leeway to add classes to suit their particular requirements.

The 2006 Solo Rules on-line are made available by the SCCA Solo Department as a courtesy to our entrants, volunteers, and anyone interested in learning more about the technical regulations governing SCCA Solo Competition.

The on-line and downloadable versions of the Solo Rulebook are not official documents -- the only official Solo Rules are the printed Solo Rules as produced and distributed by the SCCA Solo Department. If you would like a copy of the printed Solo Rulebook, contact SCCA Merchandise via e-mail or call at (800) 770-2055.

2007 Solo Manual

For a quick view of Stock and Street Prepared car classing, visit the Moutons.org site. (These may be out of date!)

In addition to the Nationally recognized Street Tire classes (STS, STS2, STX and STU) the Houston Region adds its own ST classes, STA - STF. These classes are derived from the Street Prepared equivalents, so for example if your vehicle would be classed in ASP, the Houston ST class would be STA. If your vehicle would be classed in DSP, the Houston ST class would be STD, etc.

Double Entry
Groundrules:
  • The DB program will not interfere with or lessen the quality of the Regional Event.Solo RE will set cap on a per event basis (usually ~12). For example, Solo RE could allow 20 or 30, if more entries are desired.Late (afternoon) registration of DB entrants is at the descretion of the Solo R.E. and/or RegistrarDB entrants will not gain an advantage over, nor interfere in any way with, normal class competition.
  • As an absolute last resort, the Solo R.E. may cancel the DB entries already registered if felt necessary to support the Regional event
Goals of Double Entry:
  • Allow competitors extra seat time.Prevent extra work for fellow competitors or make the day excessively long.
  • To help cover Houston Region Regional event production costs.
  • Make it simple for registration and timing & scoring to deal with.
  • Give the worker chief a tool for balancing afternoon heat work assignments.
Double Entry Requirements:
  • Open to SCCA members only"DB" class is always scheduled to run in the afternoon.
  • Participants enter once in the morning session in a regular class and once in the afternoon DB class.
  • Only morning session results count towards trophies or points, but DB class times will be saved and posted on the Internet. The second entry will be for practice only.
  • Registration for DB must take place during Morning Registration unless approved by Solo R.E. or Event ChairpersonRunning out of order to accommodate double entry is prohibited.
  • Competitors going for year end points will have as many as 6 opportunities a year to double enter when their class is scheduled to run in the morning.
  • If a competitor wants to double enter when their regular class runs in the afternoon, they may enter another appropriate morning class (such as X) instead of their regular class.
  • Paper class letters will be provided at registration for DB class. These must be run in the afternoon like any other class letters.
  • Double entrants must work TWO work assignments, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and help with course cleanup.
  • Chief of workers assigns DB class competitors to 3rd & 4th as needed to balance out worker needs.
  • Cost for second entry is $20, or $45 per event.
  • Whining about having to work twice or not being allowed to run your regular class out of order will not be tolerated.
  • Not showing up for your DB work assignment will result in your times being eliminated from the final web results and potentially the competitor being denied future DB entry.
