Solo Rules/Classes
The SCCA annually publishes the Solo Rules to classify a full range of imported and domestic sports cars, sedans, and purpose-built race cars, as well as to layout the basic rules behind Solo competition. The Solo Car Classifications are provided so that you may determine what types of cars are typically competing in Solo, although there is a class for just about any vehicle. The organizers of local events are also allowed enough leeway to add classes to suit their particular requirements.

For a quick view of Stock and Street Prepared car classing, visit the Moutons.org site. (These may be out of date!)
Due to the expansion of Nationally recognized Street Tire classes that overlap with the Houston Region ST classes and the desire to increase competition, STA thru STF will no longer be available after the December 2010 Regional event and the 2010 Regional Runoffs to be held early January 2011. Most STA - STF entrants should find a National Street Tire class to compete in. Check the 2011 SCCA rules to ensure eligibility and legality.
The Houston Region STO class continues in 2011 with slightly modified rules. The PAX for STOwill be 0.849. Click here for all other PAX numbers.

Houston SCCA Solo Rookie Class Rules
Rookie Class
The Rookie Class is intended for beginner and novice autocrossers with less than a year's experience.
You have advanced beyond the Houston Region Rookie Class and are NOT eligible for this class if you have:
- Competed in 6 or more events *
- Have won the Houston Region Rookie class more than twice or won a rookie class with more than 3 entrants or earned regular season trophies
- Have more than 6 events of autocross experience from another region or sanction. (Let's give the real newcomers a chance.)
*Some exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Rookie Chief and/or an instructor.
Class Rules:
These rules are in addition to any normal class rules
Register in R (Rookie Class on DLB Racing). There is no separate Ladies Rookie class. Sorry Ladies :)
Street tires only (By SCCA definition: DOT with a tread wear rating of 140+)
Your car identification is class "R" and the number you registered under. For example, if you registered as number 5, you would have "5 R" legibly on both sides of your car. This helps ensure that timing and scoring can correctly associate your times with you.
You are still responsible for knowing what "normal" class your car would be in for registration purposes. (Please see the National Solo Rules to determine this or ask the Rookie coordinator to help you.)
Due to the way the Rookie class is scored, Street Touring classes are not used. Your "normal class" would be the Street Prepared class that your vehicle falls in.
Trophies will be awarded at each event, however there is no year-end trophy for this class, as all entrants are limited to 6 events.
Points do not transfer to any non-rookie class.
This class does not correlate with the "Rookie of the Year" award, but it may help you get recognized as a newcomer!
The Rookie Chief and Solo Committee may make appropriate adjustments to the class rules if necessary to ensure fairness to all competitors.
What you should expect to gain from this class:
The Rookie Class was created to help people new to autocross have fun and learn from the very first event. This is a new sport for you, and we want to ensure that you are comfortable at all times. This class will help you to learn from an instructor, to show you some of the basic skills to get you started, and help you get all of your questions answered.
The Rookie Class is designed to let all new-comers compete against each other, regardless of their car or preparation level. The PAX index is used to handicap the different classes and categories. Novice class drivers compete only against each other, scored by PAX indexing. Trophies are awarded for the Rookie Class by the same system used for the open classes.
Most importantly, remember this is a Novice Program, a whole package for instruction and fun. It includes instructors, a guided course-walk and rides with experienced drivers. We want to answer all of your questions and help you have fun.
